Private code with its history is worth licensing.

AI labs license private repositories to train and test coding models. The license is non-exclusive, so you keep the code and keep shipping it.

What raises the price, and what rules code out

From Pangea's terms, checked October 19, 2026.

01

Full git history raises the price

Pangea pays for git history on top of the code. A squashed repository has lost its commits, branches and merges.

02

Code that was ever public is out

So is code shipped as a published package, and forks of other projects.

03

Client work is out

An agency can't license what it built for a client, because the rights sit with the client.

04

Leave the code as it is

Pangea strips secrets, customer data and personal data on its own copy, and leaves generated files and vendored code out of the valuation.
